#GHOE....it is what you make it.... Pt .1

October in the HBCU world is one of the most exciting time-frames in the school year. One word spells it all: Homecoming. Each week, several schools go through the pageantry & excitement of homecoming for a week. In the case of FAMU down in Tallahassee, Florida, 2 weeks. An influx of alumni & friends return to the cities ready for tailgating, networking, reuniting, and of course the good ol football game.

My today I'm not here to speak on all homecomings, just one...because its more than just a "homecoming", its an event, a calamity, its epic....simply put....its "The Greatest"....yes...I'm talking about North Carolina A&T's own.... #GHOE

#GHOE, "Greatest Homecoming on Earth" this year falls on October 27th. But everyone that attends college knows, that homecoming is a week long celebration of exponential growth leading up to Saturday. It only comes around once a year and the weeks before remind us Aggies of Christmas. The anticipation is crazy. BUT, an event like this takes alot of preparation & training because if you partake in the likes of alcohol you know all of what could happen at any given time during turn up hours.....and during #GHOE...."Turn Up Hours" are from 12AM Saturday (the 20th) --- 6AM Sunday (the 28th)...or something like that. Let me give some insight of what you could see if you're a first timer......or again if you're a student/alumnus/visitor etc etc etc.

#1: The earlier you can prepare....the better.

First & most important thing to realize is that Greensboro, for the most part, allows #GHOE to pretty much own their city for a week due to the economic impact it has on pretty much all of the businesses in the city. From hotels to restaurants to clothing stores all the way down the line. It is important to understand that closer that #GHOE gets, people will begin to shop for their outfits, paraphernalia, hotel lodging etc. (Hotels should be booked months in advance....trust me on this one). So shopping for your #GHOE needs should be handled as early as humanly possible because it'd be foolish to think you can roll up in the mall & get something last minute while everyone & their mama is in there doing the same. Alcohol included!!!!!! The ABC imports liquor from Charlotte & High Point to make sure their supply doesn't run low. But it is almost guaranteed that by time that fateful Saturday gets here, your favorite bottle just might not be there. If you have the funds, 'gon head & purchase what you need as early as possible.

#2: DRINK!

#3: Keep your eyes open.....

This one is pretty self explanatory.... #GHOE attracts thousands of people to the city of Greensboro and its guaranteed that if you step out your room or house, apartment whatever, you'll run into a crowd of people. Not saying everyone out there is a dangerous individual but believe me....they will be outchea. In the back of your mind you need to have it in there that a good majority of everyone outside is a "Shoob"....they either are a local, an out of town visitor here to turn up with the aggies, or a friend of an aggie...also here to turn up. Be mindful of your surroundings and trust your instincts...because hey.....shit happens.

#4: DRINK!

#5 If they're not 'bout that "Aggie Life".....leave em at home.....

There is someone out here that is about to have a flashback to a previous #GHOE when reading this one. It is completely natural for Aggies to want their non-Aggie friends back at home to come on down & enjoy the #GHOE experience. That is all fine and dandy, but think about their personalities and what they like to do. Are they social? Are they stuck up? A lil on the "disrespectful to strangers" side? Will they mesh well with the friends you have made down here in Greensboro? If you have answered "Yes" to any of those questions, perhaps you should think about what could happen once they arrive. There definitely has been someone that let their friends from out of town keep them from livin the #GHOE dream because they just didn't mesh well with what they had planned. Don't be that person. Evaluate 'em & make the call.

#6: DRINK!

....to be continued

Aggie Pride!
